OBITUARY :
Suzanne Richards Fagan, 87, of Bethel Park, died peacefully in the company of her family on August 23, 2023. Born in New Castle, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Frank G. and Eleanor B. Richards, dear mother of Susan Fagan Novack of McKeesport, James (Susan) of Morrisville, PA, and John (Joanne) of Pittsburgh. She was the former wife of the late Franklin Fagan Jr.
Beloved grandmother of Christine (Charlie) Dennis of Hastings, MI, Jennifer (Andy) Mizak of West Mifflin, Paul Schumacher of East Pittsburgh, James (Ashley) Fagan of Southampton, PA, Jackson (Taylor) Fagan of Fairless Hills, PA, Daniel Fagan of Key West, FL, Elle Fagan of Steamboat Springs, CO, Evan (Carlos Miranda) Fagan of Brooklyn, NY and Will Fagan of Pittsburgh. Her great grandchildren are Anthony Veltre, Andrew, Dillon and Emma Mizak, Nathan, Bella and Israel Schumacher, Lyla Fagan, and Maeve and Maura Fagan, as well as two great-great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her beloved cousins Lynn Blanning, Harriet Ross, Elsa Jane Weislogel, Jody Colby, Chris Blanning, Stevie Elkins, Bill Blanning, Dick Blanning, Harriett Richards (the late Don Richards), Carol Kraus and her special “niece” Shelley Assel (Mark).
She had many dear friendships cultivated throughout her life from her childhood, college, work, and neighborhood.
Suzanne attended Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio, and was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh where she later received her MSW. She was a case worker for Children and Youth Services of Allegheny County. She travelled widely, read widely, loved the Outer Banks, Lake Erie, The New Yorker, movies, art, the Pittsburgh Symphony, theater, her yard, and Pittsburgh history. She was active in several organizations, including delivering Meals-on-Wheels for the Canonsburg Presbyterian Church, The Garden Arts Club, several book clubs, The College Club, several bridge groups, and the Primary Colors Art Guild.
She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of the South Hills.
Suzanne was one of a kind; she had great taste and style, and was adventurous, curious, opinionated, independent, generous, and she never missed an opportunity to enjoy life to the fullest.
Family will receive friends at the Unitarian Universalist Church of the South Hills, 1240 Washington Rd, Pittsburgh 15228, on September 30, 2023, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm, when a memorial service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Unitarian Universalist Church of the South Hills or NEED, Unlocking the Power of Education, or the charity of your choice.
